Let’s be real, Netflix knew they had a hit with Bodyguard after Richard Madden was cast. As long as this dreamy hunk remembered his lines and acted real melodramatic for the camera all of the Rob Stark ‘Game of Thrones’ fans were going to tune in. We understand that’s a bit shallow considering that Bodyguard was actually one of the best binge watches of 2018 and now as the binge craving continues you may be looking for more British themed Crime TV shows to satisfy your thirst. Well “Cheerio old mate” we’ve got you covered. Here is our follow up list for those of you looking for your next great Netflix Binge.
1Luther (4 seasons, 16 episodes)
I would just like to take this time to say Thank the Lord Almighty for making THE Idris Elba. In truth it really doesn’t matter what Luther is about when I tell you there are 4 season with 16 episodes of Idris Elba goodness. Apart from that this series is actually quite gripping, not to mention that you get to listen to Sir Elba speak his native tongue for 60 mins an episode. Sign me up!
2Safe (1 season, 8 episodes)
Safe is a Netflix original series based on the work of best-selling author Harlen Coben starring Michael C. Hall (Dexter). At first it’s a little bit weird to see Dexter playing a concerned father but a couple of episodes in you get use to it. This one is definitely worth the binge but fair warning you must stay until the end. The last couple episodes are mind-blowing.
3Collateral (1 season, 4 episodes)
Collateral is a prototypical script with a recipe for success. We’ve got a ballsy, female Detective played by Carrie Mulligan. An unsolved murder that no one seems to want solved and a lurking government conspiracy. It’s pretty easy to fall in love with this binge. Collateral has the advantage of being one of those series where the characters are so well-developed that you start to treat them like real people.
4Secret City (1 season, 6 episodes)
Secret City takes a page right out of Langley but is instead set in Australia. It’s hard to believe that the Aussies are even capable of such subversive plots, but Anna Torv (Fringe) is more than capable of running this show. We have to admit that this series does start a bit slow but it’s worth it in the end. From the government spying on its citizens to international war games, this series is quite reminiscent of a Tom Clancy novel.
5The Five (1 season, 10 episodes)
The Five is an earlier series also based off of the work of Harlen Coben (Safe). Five people are inexplicable linked by the death of a childhood friend. As the story unfolds the inexplicable becomes preposterous when the blood of a child who’s been missing for 20 years suddenly shows up at a crime scene. This leads to a lot of unanswered questions for those who last saw him alive.
6The Fall (3 seasons, 17 episodes)
I don’t care what anyone says, Gillian Anderson will always be agent Scully to me. Now after you get over that first shock you realize that The Fall is an excellent murder mystery show. Even better it’s a serial killer, cat and mouse game type of crime drama series. Anderson is excellent, Jamie Dornan (Fifty Shades of Grey) is even better. The only problem you will find with this series is that it only as 3 seasons.
7Marcella (2 seasons, 16 episodes)
Anna Friel plays Detective Sergeant Marcella Backland. After leaving her job as a homicide detective to focus on her family she now returns to the force on a case that seems all too familiar to her. What you have to love about this series is that Marcella is a real woman and all of her challenges are just that. Husband left, no respect from colleagues and she still has to do the job. Nothing about this job is easy for Marcella but don’t let that trick you into thinking you need to feel sorry for her.
8Broadchurch (3 Seasons, 24 episodes)
Broadchurch is a beloved British drama series starring David Tennant, a one time Dr. Who but also known as the nefarious villain Killgrave on the Netflix original series Jessica Jones. Broadchurch is a murder mystery centered around the corpse of an 11-year old boy who is found bloodied and dirty on a beach. In a small town community, these detectives ruffle quite a few feathers in trying to solve this murder. All we can say is that the ending will leave you speechless.
